An introduction to drawing and painting realistic portraits both from life and photographs. 
Using traditional and contemporary studio methods, students will focus on capturing the ever elusive likeness, which is the essence of portraiture. A strong emphasis will be placed on light and shadow,  anatomy and structure of the head, and basics of composition. We will begin working in charcoal, and move into paint and color as the week progresses.​
A great course for both beginners and experienced students, which can be applied to a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and colored pencil. This class can also be readily applied to digital media.

This course is for students that have a background in drawing, but little or no painting experience. 
Students will learn how to transition from black and white realistic drawing, to color painting using the traditional academic  practice of grisaille to help ease into the often confusing world of paint and color.
Students will also be introduced to the basics of color theory, specifically the Munsell color system to help establish a solid foundation which can be applied to a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and digital media.
Class is recommended for both beginners and those wanting to improve and develop their current abilities.
