SUMMER ART CAMPS We are very excited to announce summer art camps at Hipbone Art Studio for teens ages 13 to 17+. Beginning June 19th we will be offering week long camps with daily classes, from 9 am to 1 pm throughout the summer. Teens will have the opportunity to experience and learn traditional drawing and painting methods taught by working artists in a safe, inclusive and professional studio environment. Ages 13 to 17 (In-Person)
Drawing Fundamentals

The ability to draw has always been the most important skill art students must acquire, Even today with the prevalence of digital illustration, game design and cgi animation, knowing the basics of traditional drawing remains the key to a successful start . This beginning level course follows a clear step by step approach in presenting the essential principles of drawing. Students will be learning the importance of light and shadow, drawing accuracy, proportion, line, value, tone, negative space, perspective and the basics of composition, Also learning to asses and critically judge their own work to further improve their skills, all the while analyzing and learning from the great artists throughout history. Students will be working mainly in black and white and monochrome, beginning with still life setups, and even from a live model. A great first course that can lay the foundation to all branches of the visual arts.
No previous experience in drawing or art is necessary only a strong willingness to learn. Price includes all materials and model fees. |
Figure Drawing

Figure drawing has been a key element in the training of visual artists for centuries, and continues to be a vital part of an arts education. Whether its, animation, game design, comics, Illustration or the fine arts, drawing the human form from life is a must.
This course is an introduction for students who have little or no experience in drawing the figure from life. Price includes materials and model fees. |
Figurative Portfolio

This course is designed for students who wish to improve they’re figurative skills and portfolio work for college,
A typical day begins with an hour of instruction followed by 3 hours of live drawing from a nude model. starting with quick sketches and into finished work. A strong emphasis will be placed on anatomy, structure, proportion, volume and gesture. The accurate and expressive use of line and tone are also addressed to provide a focus for increasing students skill. Two instructors will be present at all times, helping to guide and answer any questions students may have. Each day will conclude with a review of the days work and individual progress. Materials will include charcoal chalk and pencils, and a variety of paper. Price includes materials and model fees. |

Using traditional and contemporary studio methods, students will focus on capturing the ever elusive likeness, which is the essence of portraiture. A strong emphasis will be placed on understanding light and shadow, anatomy and structure of the head, and basics of composition. We will be working mostly in black and white using charcoal and pencil as our primary media. A great course for both beginners and experienced students. Price includes all materials and model fees. |

Comics & Graphic Novel: Visual Storytelling Camp

This class covers the fundamentals of visual storytelling in the mediums of comics and the graphic novel and can be applied to print, digital media and animation. Students will develop and carry through from beginning to end, two graphic stories, One of their own and another in collaboration with the class. Students will begin the week with a brainstorming session to come up with story ideas followed by storyboards, character designs and develop a narrative arch, also a day will be dedicated to Drawing and Illustrating a book cover and splash pages. Students will end the week with two complete projects that can be expanded, polished, and finished on students own time. This class is for all levels, no previous experience is necessary or needed, only a strong willingness to learn. Price includes all materials and any model fees.

Illustration Intro

This course introduces students to the art of illustration and narrative sequence. Students will develop conceptual ideas and strong drawing skills for specific visual and illustration projects. Recommended for students with interest in illustration and drawing leading to a variety of mediums, including advertising, animation, comic book, editorial, and book illustration.
