Updated Studio Rules, Guidelines and Best Practices (5/2026)
Hipbone Art Studio is an inclusive and safe space for all members of the community,
artists and non artists alike, as well as for our models, facilitators and teachers.
We do our best to provide a welcoming and positive experience for everyone who attends and works here.
Below are guidelines to help everyone better understand how things work at the studio.

Models
Without our models Hipbone does not exist, therefore we do our best to always treat them with the outmost courtesy and respect and all attendees are required to do the same.
Models & Photos
Photographing the model (consent or no consent) is not permitted at any time.
This includes: Portraits, wide studio shots which include the models and clothed photos of the models. (You can shoot photos of your drawing of the model, just not the live model.)
Models & Poses
The model always determines what the poses will be, this is their job. The only other person who can ask the model to alter, change or suggest a new pose is the facilitator. We ask everyone to respect this protocol.
About Working with a Model Outside a Session.
We (models and studio) are often asked if models will work privately with individual artists or at other studios. This is not within the studios purveyance and...
-Asking the model for any private contact information directly is not permitted.
-Asking the studio facilitator for model contact information is not permitted.
-Any type of solicitation, Inappropriate comments or behavior about or directed towards the model or employees will result in permanent ejection from the studio.
These rules are to protect model privacy, to allow them to do their job in peace and to uphold the studios legal obligations.
Please note that we take these issues very seriously and there is zero tolerance for indiscretion.
Conduct and Decorum
This is a public space that is shared with as many as 20 to 30 artists per session, we expect respectful and polite behavior from attendees towards everyone at all times. The good part of having large groups, is a lot of great artists to commune with and a lot of excellent work to see. On the slight down side, on very busy days, getting situated can sometimes be trying, when this is the case, simply to talk to the facilitator and they will find a spot for you. Once in your spot, politely communicate and check in with your neighbors around you to make sure you are not blocking their view or crowding them etc. You will be amazed how friendly and accommodating people are if you just ask politely and you will probably also make a new art friend. If issues arise with a neighbor that can’t be easily solved, again, just talk to the facilitator and they will help you out, that’s why they are there.
Switching Spots and Moving Around
Sometimes artists will want to get a different viewpoint, this is perfectly acceptable as long as its done quietly, and the new spot does not block views or walkways and, done during a break or time switch.
Moving Furniture The studio configuration is laid out to provide the best possible views for everyone, this comes from over 30 years
of trial and error. Every table, drawing horse, easel and chair has a fixed, marked spot in the room and we ask that this be respected and the furniture not be moved randomly. On occasion, issues will arise when moving furniture is necessary, in which case you must always ask the facilitator first, and then, have them help you to make sure views and walkways are not blocked.

- We offer:
- 4 figure drawing sessions each week,
- 3 long pose sessions every month,
- 1 portrait sessions each week.
- Drawing Sessions are $18 + Tip
- * (Except. Wed. Evening sess. $15+ Tip)
- Long Pose Sessions are $18 + Tip
Portrait sessions are $18 + Tip - All sessions are drop in.

- Regular Drawing Sessions
- Feature a life model in a variety of poses ranging from 1.5, /5 /15 and 30 minutes. Price is $18 + we encourage everyone to tip the model.
- Monthly Long Pose One (nude) pose, with the same model, over 3 consecutive Tuesdays, for 3 hours each time.
- Price is $18 +Tip each session.
- Portrait Session (2-5 Saturdays)
for three hours
- Price is $18 +Tip each session.
- Other Information
- Easels, drawing horses, tables and drawing boards are available for use, first come first serve . Some art supplies are available, but we recommend having your own. Nearly all traditional media are permitted, including oil paints, (We recommend Gamsol for oils, straight turpentine is not permitted
Doors open 30 minutes before sessions begin.
Free Parking is available in our lot (west side of building ) and on the street.
