An introduction to traditional, realistic portraits, designed to help students quickly and successfully get going on portraits from life as well as from photographs.
In this two part workshop we will focus on some key foundational drawing elements that are crucial for a solid start on a portrait, These include: Structural accuracy on the head and features, compositional guidelines, proportions of the head and face and capturing a likeness, as well as lighting, shading and value For the second class, we will be working in grisaille to help transition from drawing to painting starting with the toned ground. warm and cool tones and how these basic principles can be carried into a painting the portrait. A good starter course for absolute beginners as well as experienced artists. Principles learned in this class can be applied to all mediums such as pencil , charcoal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel , colored pencil. and even digital painting.
