About
A 4 part class focused on the finished, multi session figure drawing. All skill levels are welcome including absolute beginners.
Working from a live model, students will learn a logical step by step process towards a finished, 3 session drawing. Beginning with gestural and compositional preparations, lay-in and value mapping studies, all setting up the groundwork towards a fully rendered drawing from life. Emphasis will be on the importance of starting with a sound composition and page design, anatomical and structural integrity of the figure and, on the accurate assessment and depiction of values within a finished figurative drawing. After this class students will have the knowledge and tools for a repeatable process when tackling long pose figure drawings that can stand as finished work or, serve as detailed studies in preparation for paintings, pastel, watercolors etc.. All Materials Provided: We will be working in charcoal (vine, compressed and pencils), all necessary materials will be provided by the instructor. Model fees are included in the tuition but as always we do encourage tipping our hardworking models. Week 1: Following a review of basic drawing precepts and a demonstration, students will be working from a screen image and doing a one session completed drawing in order to experience and understand the multi part process from beginning to end, allowing them familiarization with the steps we will be following in the coming weeks. Week 2: Students will begin work from the live model starting with compositional, gestural and value studies of the pose, focusing on creating a solid compositional foundation to build on for the remaining weeks. The class will include slides and demonstrations and examples by the instructor. Week 3: Focus will shift to anatomy, structure and accurate figure drawing, as well as on making an accurate value assessments of the figure and its relationship within the entire composition. There will be one on one instruction as well as slides and demos. Week 4: For the final class students will be working to finish their drawing, cleaning up and adjusting edges and outlines, djusting value relationships, adjusting detail on the portrait, hands and feet, and bringing the drawing to completion. Instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout. |
